The day arrived
As we knew it would.
It was hard to part,
But we knew we should.

For apart, we must be.
At this time, in this place
To reflect in our hearts
With time and with space.

Time to get the family
back on track....
Space to show them
We want our love back.

For it was You,
Who became a dear friend
And stood, alone, by me
Thru tears days on end.

We've been through so much;
More than most people know,
The family I counted on....
Never saw our love grow.

When abandoned by those
Who should love me to the end,
I was ignored and shunned;
But thankful for friends.

Friends, somehow, accept who we are.
Friends show support, whether near or far.
Friends offer their shoulders in times of despair...
Friends, with their love, show us they care.

If only families would be like our friends,
Supporting their loved ones to the end
Of any road with it's twists and bends.
And have open ears willing to lend

So now we're apart
Both of us alone...
Wondering what's next
As we wait by the phone.

Will family return me to their fold,
Or will the grudges against me hold?
Time will tell and space will too...
But Bud, one day... I'll return to you.
